On June 12 – 14 Esther Bird, Debbie Straw, Stephanie Marcusky and I attended the Florida State BPW Conference in Fort Lauderdale. Stephanie was recognized along with other first-time attendees. The first day consisted of speakers educating the attendees on Parliamentary Procedure, Lobbying effectively and information about the Dept of Labor Women’s Bureau. I hate to admit it, but I had never heard of the Women’s Bureau. The Women’s Bureau champions policies and standards that safeguard the interests of working women, advocates for the equality and economic security of women and their families and promotes quality work environments. Learn more about the bureau at https://www.dol.gov/agencies/wb/about

The second day was business meetings and a lovely dinner which included the installation of the new state officers.

Our club was given an award Membership Growth for 21-39 Members which is a tribute to all of you, our members. I thank you for inviting guests to meetings and just sharing how awesome we are! Let’s keep it going and strive to continue to grow our membership. Next year’s meeting will be in Sarasota, right in our backyard, I hope many of you will consider attending.

We recently celebrated Juneteenth, the third year since the holiday was given federal status in 2021. The date commemorates the fall of slavery in Galveston, Texas, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863 to free enslaved Black people held in the Confederacy.

Happy 4th of July!!! This is America’s Day! It was on July 4th, 1776 that The United States became an independent nation, free from British rule. From that day forward, July 4th has been known as Independence Day. I hope yours was full of fun, family and fireworks!
