Women's History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated during March in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, corresponding with International Women's Day on March 8th and during October in Canada, corresponding with the celebration of Persons Day on October 18th.
Some of the leaders who struggled for equality were Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth, Lucy Stone, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Harriet Tubman, and Alice Paul.
Understanding the true history of our country will help us to comprehend the need for full equality under the law for all our people. This goal can be achieved by ratifying the 27th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which states that 'Equality of Rights under the Law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex'.
Each year a theme is established for Women's History Month and this year's theme is “Nevertheless, She Persisted: Honoring Women Who Fight All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.”

Food will be donated by Morina and Jim, the cost of the lunch will go back to BPWEV. Hope you can all make it, and don't forget to bring guests along! Kindly make checks payable to BPWEV, mail to Morina Chmielak and indicate "luncheon" in the memo line.
2017 presented a new challenge for BPWEV. The Salvation Army provided us with the names of 8 children whose 3 single mothers needed our help to provide a merry Christmas for their families. You rose to the challenge and I collected a total of $607.00. That was enough money to buy clothes, bedding and one wished for toy for each child. Some BPWEV sisters also bought clothes and bedding for the children. Thank you, thank you!
Your donations of food for the Helping Hands Food Bank in Englewood was also very generous and much appreciated by the Food Bank. Not only did you donate enough dollars to buy everything for the 8 children, but there was enough money left to write a check of $100.00 for Helping Hands.
Your kindness and generosity is much appreciated. May you all have a happy, healthy and blessed 2018.
Thank you all!

Thank you for your generous donation to WHW at the November 21, 17 meeting. The total amount collected that night amounted to $305.00 This year we actually have more children than ever before. The Salvation Army selected 3 single mothers with a total of 8 children. The all need clothing, 4 need twin bed sets and a wish for one gift.
Your bountiful food donation for Helping Hands in Englewood was much appreciated by that local charity. Please bring more at the Christmas Party on December 19, 17 as the food bank is always in great need. Thank you all for sharing the contents of your pantry!
At the December meeting I'll pass the envelope around one more time to cover the costs of all the items purchased for the 8 children. Some of our very magnanimous members went shopping for clothes and shoes and sheets to help with the project. Thank you so very much!
As of this date (Nov. 30) all the purchases have been made. I ordered the toys on Amazon on Black Friday and received great discounts, free shipping and no state sales tax.
Members ask me how they can help. At this point monetary contributions would be most helpful. If you pay by check, please make it out to BPWEV and write WHW in memo field. You can mail them to my address: Karin Drury, 64 Windsor Dr, Englewood, FL 34223
Your generous contributions to this important BPWEV program is very much appreciated!
Gratefully,

The Holiday Season is approaching rapidly, stores are more crowded and the traffic is
increasing. So is the urgency to help the single mothers in our community that are
struggling to provide basic needs for their families.
As in the past BPWEV will help several families with clothing and food donations for
Christmas. The Salvation Army in Venice will provide us again with the first names of
3 single mothers and the wish list for their children. After shopping for the items needed
the funds left will be donated to Englewood Helping Hand, Inc. to buy food for their
pantry.
For many years our Women Helping Women Project has been BPWEV’s special
endeavor for the Holiday Season to help disadvantaged single mothers in our
community. Please help us to continue this tradition. At the November Meeting and the
BPWEV Christmas Celebration I will pass an envelope around for your donations.
If you wish to pay by check, please make it out to BPWEV but add in the memo
field “Donation to BPWEV/WHW project.”
Your help will brighten the Holidays for many families!
Thank you for your generosity!
